split pea soup


1 lb dry split peas
1.5 cups diced ham
1 cup chopped bacon
1.5 cup diced onion
1/2 cup diced celery
1 carrot diced into cubes
1 tsp minced garlic
4 cups Chicken broth
4 cups water

In a large stock pot, add ham and bacon, cook down on medium, medium-high heat
After it is browned add the onions and cook for about 2 minutes
Add celery and carrots, cook until soft, about 2-3 minutes
Stir in garlic and cook for about 30 seconds or until fragrant
Add peas and chicken broth
If you need more liquid, add water while cooking, it will become thicker and you will need to add more broth or water
Cover and allow to simmer until smooth
Salt and pepper to taste before serving
