Sloppy Joes, a childhood classic.  I think there is not a child in America who hasn't eaten one before. I know my brother and I ate our share growing up... But it was the stuff out the can!
My kids love them, I still love them, especially because they are so easy to get on the table, even when you can make them from scratch.

Ingredients:

  • 2-2.5 lbs ground beef
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper diced
  • 3 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1/2 tsp tabasco (more to taste)
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1 cup water

Directions:

  • Brown ground meat
  • Add onions and bell pepper while browning
  • Add all the seasonings
  • Add the ketchup, water, Worcestershire and tomato paste
  • Cook down for a few minutes and adjust any seasonings to taste
  • Serve on a toasted bun!
